No Red Lights: Hockey: The Year of the Goalie?? - Goalie News And Instruction By Roxanne Gaudiel

The Year of the Goalie??

This playoff year is shaping up to be a good one, at least of good goalies. After last year's playoffs, where the real stars were the super charged offenses, I think we're due this year for some good goalie duels. All of the top netminders during the regular season are amongst the playoff hopefuls with the only exceptions being some lackluster regular seasons  (Ryan Miller and Phoenix), some unproven keepers in Washington and some inconsistent goalies in Philly and Tampa Bay (sorry Boucher, just too much up and down). Other than that, these guys have all fought for a chance at the vezina.
Ok, maybe I'm just hoping that this will be a great goalie year. Because let's be honest, there's nothing like a goalie stealing the show in the playoffs. It's kind of that epic David vs. Goliath, 300 Spartans or Braveheart idea... a leader emerges against all odds and perseveres to achieve immortal status! Ok, that might be stretching it, but a red hot goalie does keep you on the edge of your seat.
And I'm loving all the shutouts. A big, fat goose egg is sure to stir up some excitement in the games to come. So let's make some predictions: Carey Price proves he's worth the wait and steals the first round from Boston. Luongo makes short order of the defending champs. And the Tampa Bay/Pittsburgh series gets gritty, goes all the way and then Tampa moves on (gotta go for my hometown boys).
